Adult Learning Principles

Some Basic Adult Learning Principles
We learn best:
·         When we see a point to learning – when it’s something we want to do
·         When we learn in ways which suit us – according to our own learning style
·         When we can see where we are going and why
·         In short bursts with plenty of variety
·         When we can take it one step at a time
·         When we are rewarded for our learning
·         When we relate the content to ourselves
·         When we combine sight, hearing, movement, sound, touch, images
·         When we teach/explain/discuss it with others
·         When we relate it to what we already know
·         When we put it in our own words
·         When we practice what we learn
·         When we relax
·         When we can focus on the topic
·         When we use ‘mistakes’ as learning clues

·         When we learn with humour.
